1. Project Administration and Implementation Strategies

Objectives:

  1. form project team
  2. establish construction method
  3. review permitting process

  1. 1.1 identify in-house project person and information gathering procedures
  2. 1.2 discuss project goals, address areas of concern and Owner's expectations
  3. 1.3 review possible changes to existing production methods brought on by installation of new equipment or market demands
  4. 1.4 discuss different building strategies (i.e., new construction, renovation) for plant expansion
  5. 1.5 review qualifications of area Developers and/or Contractors
  6. 1.6 review building and EPA permitting requirements

2. Project Planning and Layout

Objectives:

  1. assess present and future operating requirements
  2. review plant layout alternatives
  3. finalize overall plant layout
  4. develop and release RFP (Request for Proposal)

  1. 2.1 survey plant operations and interview department heads
  2. 2.2 review existing and future employee counts in production area
  3. 2.3 obtain prepress, press, and bindery equipment information
  4. 2.4 identify production area (sq. ft.) requirements
  5. 2.5 develop plant layout alternatives
  6. 2.6 reach consensus on preferred plant layout
  7. 2.7 develop final layout drawing of the overall plant
  8. 2.8 develop equipment plan with footprint of new equipment pads
  9. 2.9 develop performance specifications and door & room finish schedules

3. Engineering Design Criteria

Objectives:

  1. assess present and future operating requirements
  2. review HVAC and electrical distribution system alternatives
  3. determine process equipment requirements
  4. develop design guideline criteria

  1. 3.1 survey electric and gas utilities to building
  2. 3.2 survey existing mechanical, electrical systems
  3. 3.3 determine mechanical and electrical requirements of all production equipment
  4. 3.4 assess compressed air, gas, chilled water, and pollution abatement process requirements
  5. 3.5 determine engineering design alternatives of plant and process systems and interface of both
  6. 3.6 develop design criteria and performance specifications of plant and process systems

4. Construction

Objectives:

  1. release RFP (Request for Proposal)
  2. award contract
  3. mobilize construction effort
  4. equipment installation
  5. equipment startup
  6. project close-out

  1. 4.1 release RFP (Request for Proposal) to area builders for Design/Build or negotiated contract
  2. 4.2 review proposals and interview builders
  3. 4.3 evaluate value engineering alternatives and award contract
  4. 4.4 mobilize construction effort
  5. 4.5 install equipment and process connections to presses
  6. 4.6 commission equipment for production
  7. 4.7 final close-out of construction contract
